Welcome to the Derby BSL Practice Group website.

Please note that you can leave comments on this site.  Due to feedback from members, we have now changed the way the messages display so they can be read more easily.  Please use this site as much as possible to communicate with us and other members or prospective members.

You can also follow us on Twitter @bslpractice and on Facebook ‘Derby BSL Practice Group’.

What we do…

We meet regularly on the first Friday of the month to practise BSL with other learners and deaf people from the local community.  See ‘Dates’ to find out when we’re meeting next.

Annual Membership is £5 and the year runs from September to September.

Members receive a discounted rate on all the conversational practice sessions and workshops.

Conversational practice sessions and workshops are £3 for members and £5 for non-members.  This cost may vary depending on the nature of the workshop but you will be notified in advance of any additional fees. Refreshments are provided at no extra cost.

Our Membership Secretary is Sylvia Holmes and you can contact her on membership@bslpractice.co.uk

We are a community group and as such we are non-profit making.  Any money generated is put back into the group to help run activities, buy resources and support other deaf organisations.  We also like to generate an income of our own as this provides security for the group to continue and is more attractive to funders as they can see that we’re aiming for sustainability.

We have many plans and in the future we’re hoping to send our members e-newsletters and to have a members’ zone on the site where members can access BSL resources so watch this space!

This site has information about the group and any news will be posted on here.  Please use this site regularly to see what we’re up to as well as when and where we’re meeting.  We will be adding new workshops and events as and when they’re planned so please add this site to your ‘favourites’ list so you don’t miss out.

You can post messages on this site to pass information on, ask questions, make suggestions and offer feedback about what we’re doing.

We will hopefully be adding BSL versions of all the information on the site in due course.
